Combining the old with the new

The Compostela day centre is a pleasant place to go and spend some time. This restaurant for the senior residents of Borsbeek opened in 2020, serving guests a delicious lunch, while giving them the opportunity to grow their social network and enjoy fun activities together.

The design scheme is all about contrasts, complementing black with white, new furniture with more antique aspects, a modern design with authentic paintings by a local artist. All these oppositions combine to create a playful, dynamic space that appeals to visitors. The contrasts were extended to the upper floor where the Chesterfields in the lounge corner are elevated by the light spaces and the modern architecture.

The design brief prioritised comfortable, maintenance-friendly seating that looked good and was easy to use, while being light enough for the senior guests to handle and move around if they wished to. For use indoors and outside, because the new building also has adapted furniture for the outdoor terrace.
